The essentials

A closer look.

Turmeric Force by New Chapter features whole-food fermented turmeric alongside supercritical CO₂-extracted turmeric oil, delivering both curcuminoids and the full-spectrum volatile oils typically absent from standard extracts. This dual-extract approach supports a healthy inflammatory response and antioxidant activity, making it a considered option for adults prioritizing joint comfort and everyday resilience.

Why It's Worth Considering: The supercritical extraction preserves turmeric's aromatic compounds without chemical solvents, while fermentation may enhance bioavailability, a more complete profile than isolated curcumin supplements alone.

More category questions

Is turmeric the same as curcumin?

No. Turmeric is the whole spice (root of Curcuma longa). Curcumin is the active compound within turmeric, comprising only 2-3% of the root. A supplement standardized to '95% curcuminoids' contains 30-50x more active compound than raw turmeric powder. You cannot get a therapeutic dose from cooking with turmeric.

Why is curcumin bioavailability so important?

Standard curcumin has only 2-3% bioavailability — meaning 97% passes through you unused. Enhanced formulations (Meriva, Theracurmin, BCM-95) increase absorption 7-29x. Without enhanced bioavailability, you'd need to take massive doses (8-10g) to match what 500mg of Meriva delivers.

Can curcumin replace ibuprofen?

Clinical trials show curcumin (500mg Meriva, 2x/day) is comparable to ibuprofen for knee osteoarthritis pain with fewer GI side effects. However, curcumin works through a different mechanism (NF-kB vs COX) and takes 2-4 weeks to reach full effect, unlike ibuprofen's immediate action. Many people use curcumin for maintenance and ibuprofen for acute flares.

Does curcumin interact with medications?

Curcumin has mild blood-thinning properties and may interact with warfarin, aspirin, and other anticoagulants. It may also enhance the effects of diabetes medications (lowering blood sugar further) and reduce iron absorption. Consult your physician if you're on blood thinners, diabetes medications, or chemotherapy.

How much curcumin should I take?

Depends on the formulation. Meriva: 500mg 2x/day. Theracurmin: 90-180mg/day. BCM-95: 500mg 2x/day. Standard 95% extract: 1500mg/day with piperine. These are NOT interchangeable doses — each formulation has different bioavailability. Check the specific product's clinical study dose.
