No. Turmeric is the whole spice (root of Curcuma longa). Curcumin is the active compound within turmeric, comprising only 2-3% of the root. A supplement standardized to '95% curcuminoids' contains 30-50x more active compound than raw turmeric powder. You cannot get a therapeutic dose from cooking with turmeric.
Standard curcumin has only 2-3% bioavailability, meaning 97% passes through you unused. Enhanced formulations (Meriva, Theracurmin, BCM-95) increase absorption 7-29x. Without enhanced bioavailability, you'd need to take massive doses (8-10g) to match what 500mg of Meriva delivers.
