The essentials

A closer look.

CurcuPlex-95 by Xymogen delivers a concentrated curcuminoid extract standardized to 95% curcuminoids, the primary bioactive compounds in turmeric root. Formulated to support healthy inflammatory response and antioxidant activity, it's designed for individuals seeking a high-potency curcumin supplement backed by practitioner-grade quality standards.

Why It's Worth Considering: Xymogen's formulation pairs the 95% curcuminoid standardization with phospholipid-based delivery to address curcumin's characteristically low oral bioavailability, a meaningful distinction from standard turmeric powders.

More category questions

Is turmeric the same as curcumin?

No. Turmeric is the whole spice (root of Curcuma longa). Curcumin is the active compound within turmeric, comprising only 2-3% of the root. A supplement standardized to '95% curcuminoids' contains 30-50x more active compound than raw turmeric powder. You cannot get a therapeutic dose from cooking with turmeric.

Why is curcumin bioavailability so important?

Standard curcumin has only 2-3% bioavailability — meaning 97% passes through you unused. Enhanced formulations (Meriva, Theracurmin, BCM-95) increase absorption 7-29x. Without enhanced bioavailability, you'd need to take massive doses (8-10g) to match what 500mg of Meriva delivers.

Can curcumin replace ibuprofen?

Clinical trials show curcumin (500mg Meriva, 2x/day) is comparable to ibuprofen for knee osteoarthritis pain with fewer GI side effects. However, curcumin works through a different mechanism (NF-kB vs COX) and takes 2-4 weeks to reach full effect, unlike ibuprofen's immediate action. Many people use curcumin for maintenance and ibuprofen for acute flares.

Does curcumin interact with medications?

Curcumin has mild blood-thinning properties and may interact with warfarin, aspirin, and other anticoagulants. It may also enhance the effects of diabetes medications (lowering blood sugar further) and reduce iron absorption. Consult your physician if you're on blood thinners, diabetes medications, or chemotherapy.

How much curcumin should I take?

Depends on the formulation. Meriva: 500mg 2x/day. Theracurmin: 90-180mg/day. BCM-95: 500mg 2x/day. Standard 95% extract: 1500mg/day with piperine. These are NOT interchangeable doses — each formulation has different bioavailability. Check the specific product's clinical study dose.
